Breakfast Trends: Overnight Oatmeal

Lately there has been a huge trend with Overnight Oats. From Jenna's Steel Cut Oats to Kath's French Vanilla Yogurt Oats. It could be that summer is over and its time to do things that take us away from our beloved breakfast making time and/or it could be that its getting chilly and the thought of oats is comforting. Whatever the case, if your short on time but need a quick oat fix using this process is the way to go.

If you don't know already overnight oats can be made by soaking your favorite type of grain in your favorite type of liquid. Its super simple and involves zero cooking! Just pour in your favorite things in a container and while you sleep it does it all on its own. In the morning you can throw whatever you like in and POW a delicious bowl of oattygoodness! If you want to see a great overnight oat look book check out Kath's impressive list of recipes. And for a tutorial on how to do this check out Tina's post. I know both of these posts really helped me a bunch!

This morning I put together a bowl of delicious Spiced Pumpkin Pie Oat Bran using my soaked oats from last night. My inspiration had to be Sweet Eat's trusty pumpkin oats recipe, its a oldie but a goodie.

I let the oat bran soak in skim milk and pumpkin puree with a spice mix of cloves, cinnamon nutmeg overnight. Once I woke up I microwaved them for a good 2 minutes then topped with raisins and agave nectar with a dash of cinnamon for good measure. The creamy flavor of the pumpkin with the texture of the oats is a perfect harmony. First bite...it was evident that fall is officially here..major yum!

What do you think the next breakfast trend will be?

  1. i love overnight oats - they're my favorite summertime breakfast. i always soak them with half milk, half yogurt, lots of spices, dried fruit, nuts, plus some extra milk in the morning - so delicious!

i'm not sure what the next trend will be because i'm forever loyal to oats, cold or hot! :)

well hmmm next breakfast trend i think will probably be wow hard question, maybe like baked oatmeal for the fall, or i saw a recipe in cookie mag, for creme brulee oatmeal which had like a few tsp or prob a tbsp of sugar on top of oatmeal(u could use agave prob or maple or honey) well they said just make your oats add in whatever fruit u like and top with sugar and broil in oven until golden and has a hard crust... :) that would be so delicious, my dad has a creme brulee blow torch hmmm too bad he doesnt live with me, but maybe i'll ask to borrow it ;)
