Cayenne Oats

Cayenne Oats with Cranberries and Udi's Au Natural Granola

Starting the morning right with oat bran soaked in cinnamon, agave and a bit of cayenne overnight. Warmed and mixed with banana, cranberries and cinnamon. Topped with Udi Au Natural Granola. I'm seriously having too much fun with the spice rack lately! Why I haven't tried more savory like spices for breakfast is beyond me. Word of caution though, just a bit of cayenne goes a long way so balance it out with your favorite sweetener! So the million dollar question, was the granola good? Well this was the first sample of Udi's Artisan granola I've tried...I loved the texture but was not very keen on the honey flavor. Maybe I am a agave lover but the honey did nothing for me. I am really excited about trying the Hawaiian flavor since pineapple is involved though...looks promising!

I have some great ideas for polenta hotcakes this weekend...any ideas on toppings?
So the packing continues! See you all later :)

  1. Ooo I would've never thought of cayenne pepper! I have a friend that would LOVE this idea.

Hmm.. I know what would be delicious on those polenta hotcakes! Try making Gena's raw "pizza cheese" (I can send you the link if you don't know what I'm talking about), and a thick tomato sauce.

  3. love your oat bran, such a great idea, love cinnamon with cayenne and a sweetener, totally balances out the heat for a sweeter option, i was thinking the other day of putting cayenne and carob powder in my oats for a "Mayan chocolate oatmeal"...but i love this idea with the cranberries and granola...
hmmm polenta hot cakes how about a blueberry sauce with balsamic reduction... or a pomegranate chutney...i was gonna have polenta tonight with Leslie's(thewholeplate) chia seed recipe. :)

  4. maggie, i'm convinced you are a breakfast genius. i love this idea and am totally trying it this week.

polenta hot cakes sound delicious! i had a really good savory one at a restaurant recently, with avocado, jicama, black bean salsa, and sauteed arugula. really yummy. for sweet i'd go with agave and blueberries - i love the blueberry-corn combo. i'm pretty confident you'll come up with something brilliant!
