From the Cookie Jar

Hello Maggie here,
Katharina and I decided to swap places this morning. I'm currently having breakfast over at Katharina's blog! Of course your invited too :) Please enjoy breakfast with my lovely friend and keep checking her blog for my guest post today..take it away Katharina!

Hello everyone! Katharina here! I keep a blog called Katharina’s Food Adventures. One day Maggie over here stumbled upon my blog. And I’m so glad she did! As you all know, this little lady comes up with quite the dishes and she writes from the heart. When she asked if I could write up a guest post for her, I was so excited! I gladly took on the task! Since her specialty is breakfast, I decided to stick with that. After all, it’s my favorite meal. So here goes…

Ever notice the wonderful oatmeal creations floating around the blogosphere? If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then I don’t know where you’ve been! Anyway, I think oatmeal is a great example of a versatile grain. You can pretty much dress them up whichever way you like, be it sweet, savory, or both! Whatever your heart and tummy desire. I will show you a few that have been inspired by desserts.

Strawberry Shortcake Oatmeal
I didn’t have shortbread cookies on hand so I improvised with honey graham crackers.

S’mores Oatmeal
Most of you might have chocolate on hand, alas I didn’t. But no worries! I just crumbled a brownie on top.

Sicilian Spiced Fig Oatmeal
This is a prime example of what I usually do to make these dessert inspired oats. I just googled the recipe for the actual cookie and took note of the spices, extracts, any other key ingredients. Then I just put it all together when I was cooking my oats. *Note: that’s ricotta on the one side in case you were wondering.

Cherry Almond Ginger Oatmeal
Ever tried on of these cookies? Well if you haven’t, this bowl of oats is a pretty close call!

And last but not least…

Peach Ginger Almond Oats infused with Rose Water
I was just thinking of my 3 main ingredients and the addition of rose water put a Persian twist on this bowl.

Additionally, there’s a website called Living Well 360, filled with wonderful oatmeal recipes inspired by some of our favorite desserts, even candy bars! I actually just went to check it out – I got sidetracked oops – and I saw that there’s a recipe for tiramisu oatmeal. Tiramisu is my favorite dessert of all time, so this will definitely be going on my list of things I simply have to make! Anyhow, I hope you all thought of some yummy things you’d like to create. If anybody comes up with anything I’d love to hear about it. Toodaloo!
