Eating Whole

Vanilla Protein Old Fashion Oats with Dates, Cardamon and Coconut Milk. Spoonful of Almond Butter

Speaking of almond butter, I've been reading Heather's blog lately and have really been admiring the way she eats so balanced. I love how she eats "whole" foods with the most amount of nutrients and staying power, for fun but most importantly for fuel. I know with my low blood sugar levels that its the only way I can eat too....long lasting grains, good proteins and a variety of vegetables are vital. Skimming through old archives I have been trying some of her latest recipes this week and I'm actually convinced I need a jar of Tahini! Anyways if you have not already go check out her blog , she has such a wonderful perspective on eating.

Basil Date Spinach Shake
It just reminds me of how I need to keep taking in real foods and less sugary things for my health. A few months ago I was on a mission to regain all the weight I lost in the past year and I bulked up my meals with even more protein/carbs/fats. For a while it was working, I was getting stronger, but it seems my body adjusted and plateaued, it's possible. I knew once I moved it was time to get busy working on my health again. I decided to quit the gym , take up Pilate's and focus on strength and nourishment for my body even more so. That being said this month is all about feeling my best and finding that balance that my body needs. I encourage all my readers to do so too..even if it means adding more green vegetables or maybe replacing your old standby bread with whole wheat or sprouted seed kinds. Whatever it may be, I want to make it my goal to get healthier for my physical and mental well being and I'd love it if you do too! Life is all about growing and changing and I think that there is always room for improvement, right?

Back to yummy things!! A few good eats I've been enjoying include basil date spinach shakes and old fashion oats with protein powder. Who knew basil could taste so delicious with dates? I received a jar of my Mama's special "brew" for breakfast this morning...I felt I was at a spa enjoying a special beauty concoction...it was just that replenishing. I also have been adding vanilla brown rice protein powder in my oatmeal, it just adds that level of creamiest that nothing else can! I actually went to grab some yogurt to top off the bowl but realized I'm all out. Boo! Another awesome food I've been consuming is...

PB&J LaraBar!
Because the ingredients are so simple I'll keep my review real simple: Tart, Nutty, Playground, Smiles. This bar exceeded my expectations, cherries in a Pb&j?? Genius. And I finally ate a whole one, pretty happy about that!

Fun things on my to do for today list includes:

Hanging wall art.

Lighting this candle.

Finishing my sketches.
And buying another kabocha. I'm off to go find Lu a new walking harness but before I go here's a bit of my truth to start your day!
Truth: Many of the posts I write I delete because they are a little too emotional and personal. Call it whatever you like, I constantly question myself as to what I should and shouldn't post but I guess I'm very protective about keeping the integrity of my blog. It works out as a positive thing though because often my feelings change in the morning when I post.
Today I tag Katie since she does some sweet things with fudge and babies...confused? Check out this! Mmm making some today! And don't forget to visit OCCK!

I love this post! That sounds like such an interesting combination for a shake. And the wall art :) Having good health allows us to enjoy so many more things in life. Having a cold this past week really made me appreciate my good health even more.

Agghhh so you're another blog I forgot to add to my google reader. I had so many I was reading via my wordpress blogroll and google reader, and a few weeks ago I thought I had added everyone to my reader- but I forgot a few. :(

Love this post though! I missed your breakfasts and loove Heather's way of eating too. She's one of my blogspiration gals.

You are obscenely talented and I am incredibly jealous of your artistic ability!

Would that Brown Rice Protein be Sun Warrior? If so, I agree that it is the most wonderful addition to oats I can think of.

Good for you for nourishing yourself with such healthy foods...I think your blog is fantastic, with a perfect balance between the personal and the 'informal' foodie pics.

Have a great day

I must make your vanilla oats sometime... Love the way you took the photos at the top. So chic! I have been playing with protein powder in my oats too, such a great way to up the protein factor in a yummy way. Unfortunately, I only have strawberry flavor.. boo :(

Eating whole foods is more than just a healthy body experience.. it is healthy for the mind too! I know that I feel so “wholesome” and cheery when I feed my body well. I mean, my bod is getting all the nutrients it wants/needs... why wouldn’t it be happy!?

You are so talented, Maggie. you are truly an artist!

Hugs & Love,

That shake looks and sounds unbelievable! I haven't made a date shake in months, and the basil just brings it to a whole new level.

Love your attitude towards balance & body.

Have I mentioned I'd love to raid your shoe closet?

You know, I contemplated adding brown rice protein to my oatmeal the other day. Your positive review of it has pushed me to try it.

Basil and dates? That sounds really interesting! I love them both independently of one another, so why not combine them?! :)

Beautiful sketches!

I've done that sometimes-- write heartfelt posts but then erase/delete them. It is hard when you want to reach out but do not always know who you are reaching out to. Throwing secrets into the dark, but will they echo back?
