Harvest Pumpkin Oat Bran slow cooked with Spiced Infused Hemp Milk and Plumed Flame Raisins. Topped with Pumpkin Granola, Cinnamon and an spoonful of Sunflower Seed Butter.
Fancy descriptions aside. I made pumpkin oatmeal. So good does it really need another name? Call me strange but going into my pantry I saw the can of pumpkin and greeted it as "hey lady"...yes its been that long! I'm silly but how ever will I get through another year without it, I do not know. Squashes, pumpkins, apple cider..fall without a doubt has become my favorite season food wise. Whats yours?
While we are on the topic of food, when are we not, this weekend I put together a review of sorts. First of all I'm not one for formal reviews. I usually find it like an commercial on the television, annoying and time consuming, but I just had put down in words how great these breads really are! The kind people from French Meadow's Bakery was more then generous when they sent over a loaf of each of their three gluten free breads. Being that I'm a huge fan of their products I was ecstatic!

Not only are all these breads gluten free but they also are whole grain. I know growing up I've tried eating gluten free and the bread options for whole grains were scarce so it was nice seeing the stamp of approval!
First up one of my already favorites the Multigrain Bread..

Loved the seeds, crust and the flavor was much like my childhood favorite. I had flash backs to cold turkey sammies on summer days for sure. I find it makes a killer avocado and mozzarella toast melt!
Next was the Sandwich Bread..

This bread did not go well with eggs or almond butter...let me just be honest. But I could see this as a grilled cheese or paired nicely with something very flavorful. The texture reminded me of corn bread and it actually was too sweet to eat after a while. Not a problem though if your into sweet white bread!
I saved the best for last with the Cinnamon Raisin Bread...

Not only did I eat a slice for the review but I went back for more and topped it with some almond butter. This bread deserves to be toasted and slathered with nut butter! I give it a triple yum!
My overall impression was that the texture was different, much like cornbread, but being that its gluten free it far exceeded my expectations. My favorite had to be the mulit grain since it was the most versatile and the cinnamon came pretty close also. I cant say I would buy some myself since their hemp bagels have stolen my heart but it was very very good! So what am I going to do with three more loafs? Hello bread pudding! Have any stellar recipes?
As I sit here right now taking a few sips of my favorite drink with the cutest vintage ring I can't help but think of last night...

I arrived pretty late to my place last night. What a night it was! Being that I was terribly exhausted from what transpired hours before I decided to skip my late night snack and go to bed. Well I guess my body did not approve since I was bombarded with hours of dreams of food. Waking up around 1am I was shaky, hungry and dizzy. Not good! Instead of ignoring the signs, like my formal self, I did exactly what I needed to do..I ate! Yep I went to the kitchen and poured the biggest bowl of shredded wheaties, hemp milk and raisins. While I watched a bit of iron chef and savored each bite I felt I put into practice all the learning I have done about what it meant to take care of my body. Mental games aside I did what I needed to do for my health. Thoughts did run though my head like all the exercise I would need to loose such "weight" from the cereal or how eating sugar that late at night meant no breakfast. But you know what? I ignored it all, went to sleep and woke up rested and healthy. My body thanked me for loving it and I thanked my body for loving me. Beautiful.
Which leads me to my question for the day...what beautiful thing have you done for your body today?

ReplyDeleteThe multi-grain bread looks really tasty, as does the cinnamon one. Not so much the white bread as I'm not a fan..
Way to go, for listening to your body. It wouldn't give you such intense hunger signs if it wasn't hungry. I'm sure it's loving you right now. :)
So great to hear how you responded to your body's cues. It's an inspiration to hear. Keep fighting this battle! <33
ReplyDeleteToday after breakfast I did yoga, and instead of waiting until lunch time to eat, I ate when I was hungry! (Novel idea right?!) hehe It actually worked out better this way. SO proud of you Maggie, your blog continues to brighten my day, everyday!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say fall is my favorite too, I am basically obsessed with Pumpkin & Squash. But I find it so interesting how my food preferences change with the seasons especially when I'm staying active and eating healthy fresh foods.
ReplyDeleteSo far today I did a Spin class followed by a Flow Yoga class. I love the combo of the 2 and it always leaves me feeling so refreshed & energetic.

Thank you for those bread reviews. They all look wonderful, especially the cinnamon flavored variety. Seeing that picture made me crave some almond butter topped toast.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for giving into your body's requests! I think cereal is an excellent mid-night snack. Much better than grease, sweets, or junky chips. I'm of the belief that our bodies know what's better for us much more than our diet-centric heads.
So far, the most beautiful thing I've done for my body today (aside from a great 8.5 hour sleep) was making your DELICIOUS vanilla breakfast burrito. I can't wait to blog about it, and will definitely be linkin gto your recipe! Thanks again for sharing it, it made my morning.
I don't usually comment, but I just had to this time and say that I think what you did for yourself by listening to your body and giving it what it wanted, and not feeling guilty about it, is SO beautiful to hear. As I go through my own recovery with an ED, reading things like that is SO inspirational, you have no idea, and I thank you for that :) It gives me hope for myself and inspires me to keep going on my road to recovery. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWow that bread looks so good! Especially the cinnamon raisin with almond buttah!
