My Journey to Optimism

Optimism is "an inclination to put the most favorable construction upon actions and events or to anticipate the best possible outcome". It is the philosophical opposite of pessimism. Optimists generally believe that people and events are inherently good, so that most situations work out in the end for the best. (Source)

Banana Oatmeal Cookie- Raw Almond Cookie Dough Butterfly with a Split Banana filled with Buckwheat Crispies, Agave Drizzled Flax Seed and Hemp Milk.

Yum yum yum! Breakfast this morning put an instant smile on my face. You know when you feel so content and optimistic that it reflects on everything around you? That's exactly what happened this morning. Just one bowl of happiness and of course a few of my favorite flavors. Banana. Cinnamon. Chocolate. All present in this little "dessert" party! Two gals who are rocking the dessert week are Heather. Ice cream and oatmeal together? Sweet! And Tam with her pudding in a jar! Have you made a dessert for breakfast? Send me the link!

Wondering why all of a sudden happy as a clam? The truth is I can't say that being "happy" comes easily especially when my life isn't under the best circumstances. But I decided that December 31 09 was the last day I give in to my pessimistic nature. Why not find the positive in little things? No doubt it takes effort..I find myself more mentally exhausted come 8 pm..but I think it will be worth it in the long run. They say it takes a good solid thirty days to make a habit so I've decided every day to find at least something positive.

Golden Corn bread VitaTop with Agave Ketchup
I think the best way to commit to that habit would be in blogging form so I am going to write up my journey to positivity each day at the end of my posts. That way I can be held accountable if I do succumb to be a negative Nelly! A side note, I am aware that I should not fake positivity if I'm having a bad day or such but what negativity I'm talking about is the constant complaining of life when there is no need. I have the best family, shelter, good health and an abundance of food; there is no need for the drama!

Anyways, if you remember earlier I said that my contentment has been oozing out on other things around me. Positivity breeds positivity. I'd be lying if I said that my jewelry and headband collection weren't receiving those happy vibes.
One beauty that is ready for auction...

The Poetry Necklace- Satin Ribbon framing a Dangling Gold Chain of Vintage Buttons, Pedants and Coins dating back to the 1940's. Edit: Now for sale!

A few of my favorite found treasures yet...

My long lost great grandmother's anniversary ring, jade "scarf" necklace (that I never take off) and an over sized rabbit ring. Also the most lux vintage jewelry platter I've ever laid eyes on from Florence, will be up for grabs this week.

And an delightful drink that has put the pep in my step....

Strawberry and Banana Kefir

The flavor of banana and strawberry always reminds me of being a child. Gummy Bears, chewies, jelly beans, what have you, seemed to forever contain these two fruits. Something about the combination always brings such humor along. So when I poured a glass I was dreaming of play set swings and Betty Spaghetti's :) Reality is the creamy banana flavor was delectable and I absolutely loved the richness of the yogurt. I still have to give it to the blueberry flavor but this could possibly be second in line. I am tempted to stop buying Greek yogurt just because I love how my body is responding to the Kefir. I've always had such a problem with dairy but somehow this drink really balances me out! Oh another reason to be positive...having a healthy happy body!

Before I go off on my way, my first positivity note of my journey to optimism.. January 05 2010- My muffin top is back and I am loving it. The humming birds always visit my window during afternoon tea, they are so delicately designed. Sometimes my creativity surprises me and I become in awe; there's nothing wrong with being proud of your own work. Do you have a pessimistic or optimistic nature? What positive thing can you glean from today?

PS: I decided to sell through Etsy once my Ebay auctions are up. Come check it out!

Your breakfast looks stella, and I am absolutely IN LOVE with that rabbit ring! Where did you get it?! I saw similar ones when I was living in Paris.

  2. I took a big trip to the city this summer and picked it up at a uber trendy shop for about $3. I guess Urban Outfitters are selling them online for around $30? Insane!

  9. Acknowledging your mood, be it good or bad, is really important - like you said, there's nothing worse than faking positivity when you feel like Oscar the Grouch. Honest is the best policy - but after acknowledging the fact that you're not in a good mood, you CAN do something about it.
Your positive attitude has always inspired me, and your words have always made me really think.

    Embrace your beautiful self. :)

    Love,
    Eleanor. xo

  12. Yay for being an optimist! Until very recently, I was most definitely a pessimist but then I realized something. Being pessimistic doesn't get you anywhere and it certainly won't fix your problems. So now I'm trying hard to focus on the POSITIVE things and.. I'm starting to feel happier. I can't wait to hear (read?) about the positive things in your upcoming days. :)

    All your jewelry is gorgeous!

  14. Ahh, that raw butterfly cookie is too cute. I bet it was delicious as well----I have yet to try the raw cookie dough that seems to be all the rage in blogland. ;) Agave ketchup? Intriguing! The poetry necklace is beautiful, too.

I admit that I do complain a lot, but it just feels better to write out my anger than to take it out on an innocent friend or family member. I dislike complaints about petty things, too.

  15. Beautiful breakfast, I love the butterfly.

I, too, believe that it is important to focus on the positives each day.. that's why I've started a daily "what I'm thankful for" blurb at the bottom of all of my posts. It helps me so much!

    Have a lovely evening!
    Love,

  16. Your breakfasts always look fantastic Maggie :) They probably make it easier to be optimistic throughout the day!

I think it's great that you've chosen positivity as a goal. I think it's really important to pay attention to the good things in life, because the world around us is filled with so much good, all we need is to open our eyes to it :)
