the leaves changed their colors and the schoolyards were filled
my coat with the patches barely keeps out the chill dooo

you sent me a postcard from a town out of state, i wish it were warmer and i hope you're the same doopdoodoo

the fields where we wandered were golden
now only muddy my boots and i know i should recover, you're a bird of the summer, i was wrong to try and capture you

Flight
Flight

gone is the pale hand of winter
here is the first flush of may

and soon I will discover whether birds of the summer fly in circles or just fly away

Good morning everyone! I've been up to a few "necessary" things this week like...eating cookie dough from dusk to dawn, letting old scrapbooks shape my new collection of headbands and dreaming about buying more kombucha tea. Speaking of cookie dough, I ended up making some pecan chocolate babies a few weeks back and I've managed to include them somehow in every meal. This morning was no different, I finally had a bowl of oat bran, its been weeks, and topped it off with some "bird nests" aka pecan coconut babies. A bit off topic but I've always had a huge fascination with birds since I was young which has grown into this whimsy collection of vintage pendents and handmade blue bird wall paper. I also have just a sketching book filled with bird stickers, cards and pictures. The only cards I've saved from friends and family are the ones with birds on them. I know I know partial! I believe Miss Amy once had a post about her love for birds which was quiet enchanting! Was that bowl of oats divine! I too believe chocolate should be the first thing eaten in the morning. Why not start every morning on such a positive note? Keeping with the bird nest theme I made a quinoa Mexican fiesta salad that knocked my socks off the other day. I've accumulated so many diverse recipe pages from magazines that I thought it was about time I start making the actual meals. The original recipe called for rice, chicken and beans but I added my own touch with chipotle flavors, quinoa and almonds. Full of color and flavor. I love it when leftovers taste ten times better the next day, and in this case they did!
As for the Russian nesting dolls..yet another favorite thing from childhood. Although my as a kid were wooden, bright red and had painted red roses, these brought back such fond memories. My sister surprised me the other day by asking me my favorite thing while holding a white anthro bag behind herself..after shouting off many random answers like "oatmeal and lockets" I finally opened the bag with huge teary eyes and a big smile. This gift was filled with love, just memories and tears! And the best part they are actually measuring cups..but I think these will be exceptional for my ever growing button collection. If I could I would keep this baby for my buttons too but I know it will be going to someone special soon.
Anyways today is already the second day of January and finally stores are open, crowds are dissipating and for me the clouds are breaking up. I think it might be time to venture out of my nest and fly a bit. More posts soon and a huge giveaway is coming up shortly! Be back a bit later loves. xoxo Maggie
How do you start your mornings off? With coffee, tea, chocolate? Has the thought behind a gift ever brought you to tears?

Pecan coconut babies sound so yummy! I'm guessing they stem from CCV'S raw babies :)

Your oatmeal toppings in the first picture does remind me of fallen leaves. :) "Birds' nests" sound delicious---I love practically anything with coconut in it. I've been shoving the desserts in lately, too, haha... hopefully, I can restructure my eating a little after the holidays.
ReplyDeleteThis post was beautiful! The words, the photos, the food, everything.
ReplyDeleteMy morning simply has to start with a large mug of coffee, and some good music to waken me up!
