Stories stories

Three Knit Hats- each have a story, a memory that only I know.

If this mug could talk..it would tell of all the bowls of chili I had after a long cold day of field trips.

It would tell of the mugs of hot chocolate I consumed over tears when life seemed so bad. It would tell of cups of warm creamy oats my mother would place by my makeup box while I rushed to get out the door to make the bell in time.

Cinnamon Dolce Coffee Soaked Storybook Oats

This morning I pulled out one of my favorite mugs and cozy'd up to a cup of memories. I guess I've always been the same about certain items...I attach thoughts to songs, emotions to old skirts and memories to mugs. To each their own I suppose. Do you do the same?

My grandmother's old Chanel eyeshadow box- my new button collection keeper

So I have to gush about how great yesterday was! I arrived a tad early with my purple knit hat intact and my black vest buttoned tightly for warmth. One hour later and paperwork filled I met my new dietitian and how lovely she was! A little old lady behind black thick rimmed glasses she pulled out various plastic avocado slices and demonstrated the proper portion sizes for my meals. Like most already said..I knew things before she even mentioned them but I nodded and accepted her advice on adding more fats in my diet. After introducing her to the benefits of brown rice protein and hemp milk we bonded. I left with beautiful cursive scribbled on a white sheet promising that if I continue to eat just so I will continue to be on the way to my goal weight. Just smiles and thankfulness. I guess this memory will always be attached to my purple knit hat. Can't help thinking though that maybe all the belief going around truly made a difference? I believe so.

Tell me loves, do you attach memories or stories to objects? xoxo

PS: Shout out to flavor of life for modeling one of my bows beautifully!

  3. So pleased it went well for you with the dietician. I've just been reading Proust "A la recherche du temps perdu"- It's all about how memories and associations create our reality, v.interesting. I definitely attach memories to things- sadly some things have taken on negative memories though :(

  7. hey lovie,
i do the same exact thing we almost every item i own, so many songs, movies, clothing, hats, shoes, scarfs...i am so much the same...i have this pink American high pink waisted skirt that i have had for 2 years...its funny, and a bit sad that i look at it, and the only thing i can remember is being admitted to IP...because i wore it 2 out of my 3 stays...but as well as that, i have a off white and cream striped scarf that reminds me of my friend Brooke, and in montauk with her this past summer, songs remind me of days taking the train in and out of the city after taking an art class :) so much more! + of course mugs and bowls!

  8. Great to hear that your appointment went well, Maggie :) I can't wait to see you getting healthier and happier!

I have memories attached to countless objects; some good, some bad. There's also a lot of smells and sounds that conjure up the past.

    Lovely post.

  9. ooooh yes. i feel like each of my mugs reminds me of some memory or person or story--maybe because mugs are often received as gifts? or because they are parts of meals--which we usually associate with those we shared those meals with?

i really love this post :)
