My Pointless Post

The Blue Bird Satin Headband

The day starts out with a silly punk rock song from my preteen days that goes off precisely at seven am. Never had the heart to change it. Somehow I always wake up 12 minutes before and manage to wait for it to chime before going on with my day. One cup of warm water and an lemon squeeze later I was in my fluffy robe emersed in the ingredients of the pantry.

This morning was the only time we had to talk before a working/school day so the oats were brought out for a bowl of my special recipe. -I wouldn't say even if you asked me.

As if an exchange of words were never needed...plain oats with a spoonful of honey and cinnamon sprinkled on the bottom of the bowl. Apples from my tree and my complicated production of oats as well - dried figs, apples, almond butter, vanilla bean.

She likes to think that its an display perfectly reflecting our personalities - I, on the other hand, like to think that I am just a bit more creative/complex - don't tell my sister I said that :)

Saddling up in the simple things that make me feel like me - neutrals, leather, straw and lace. I found these boots for only ten dollars and its as if they were always apart of my life.

Howdy howdy howdy

Errands, smiles and pennies later my studio became my residence and it was back to creating unique things for my shop. I have to admit that after years of going to fabric stores acting like I could sew..its such a relief to finally slip off that mask - I know how now! - that should be a great children's book if I say so myself.

Insert lots of delicious snacks having to do with chia seed. Its become quiet the little trend over here with "test" cookies and bars that are baked daily - of course I must "test" them all :)

Now before the questions arise, yes this is for a guy. I can imagine someone with style and taste could wear this gem but my friends think otherwise. Whatever the opinions are - linen just makes such a breezy bow tie, no?

After sewing my fingers until I went silly I decided to take a few minutes to look for inspiration. Listening to Taylor Swift's Fearless song I found this pretty photo from one of my favorite fashion blogs, Late Afternoon, I had to know where she got that beautiful vintage piece. Guessing that it probably was one of a kind I got to making my own - and without a doubt it came out so much more poetic then I anticipated. I put together an tutorial so you can get to making your own as well.

How to make an blue bird headpiece:

What you'll need- One spool of blue ribbon, two glue sticks, scissors, hot glue gun, two blue cotton headbands.

First - wrap your headband with ribbon vertically - this might be tricky but make sure to do it as elegantly as possible. Make sure to use the least amount of fabric as possible - you'll need to save the rest for later. Do this to both headbands.

Second - make little circle and tear drop cut outs of various sizes - thumb size works well.

Third - you will have lots and lots of leftover ribbon...make good use of this by compacting small pillows of it with your glue gun. I kept wrapping and wrapping until they stayed together...make four.

Forth - now you will have all your pieces. Position them in the mirror to how you like them..I like them a little off centered and opposite then each other. Glue, secure and add extra petals.

Wear in delight! Now you could simply make your own but I thought it would be amazing to make one for the farmers market tomorrow - one is up for grabs in my online shop as well.

I love jean jackets, cargo pants, lots of pockets, dangle vintage ear cuffs.

This could possibly the most pointless post I've ever written but really I just wanted you to know I'm still here - reading every one's blogs daily. I've just been tied to my art, making crazy things and getting ready for tomorrow's market so its been hard to remember to photograph my random trips to the refrigerator. Well I gotta go start steaming some clothes for tomorrow & make some pumpkin pancakes for dinner! Hope to see you there!

"In this moment now capture it, remember it
Cause I don't know how it gets better than this
You take my hand and drag me head first

Green Mango Creamy Smoothie

Hello! I must say that although I've been a busy bee the past few days I haven't stopped thinking about my blog and the lovely readers. It seems that I'm always doing the balancing act of living and creating memories as well as recording them here. Even if it seems a little overwhelming, the feeling of returning to writing and photography never ceases to make me feel at home. It just feels like home. But being gone for almost two weeks, without being too dramatic, feels like being gone two months! Lets catch you up to speed :)

I joined a tribe for the weekend and caught sight of a different person in the mirror

I learned to sew with two lovely birdies by making my first bow tie - "Her Bow Tie Shop" soon to be opened

I'm packing up all the odds and ends for my first farmers market shop - so excited to share it with my favorite friend.

Hems, trims, and clasps galore -it was a long weekend

Gifts from a friend in Switzerland - guess where I'm going next year!!

As if my life has done a 180, everything that is happening right now were all my dreams last year. I remember writing a little wish list of things I wanted to do in a lifetime..never thought they could all take place in a year span. Well guess what? I surprised myself and made the commitment to my dreams. My Nonna keeps saying that I deserve it after the hard year I just had but I keep thinking that I'm just grateful to be alive. I look at what I was doing last year in September and I remember how much anguish and despair I was in...I didn't know where I was going and all I wanted to do was sleep. But now I know its worth taking good risks and fighting every battle head on because moving forward is where greatness lies.

If anyone wants to join please email me for the location - mybreakfastshop at yahoo dot com

Sweet Memories and Cowboy Boots

Over a few cartons of green curry and pan thai we spoke about stories of old sci fi movies and famous recipes. We took a silly vote on what was the all time best breakfast food and a decision was made that it was french toast. For a split second I couldn't think of what was my favorite and then it came to me. I laughed randomly because I felt I was taking the whole thing to seriously. But honestly I could remember every occasion that I had that delicious eggy sweet bread.

When my grandparents would visit from the deep south we would always have their buttered french toast with my grandmommy's convented maple syrup that she some how smuggled on the plane. I would lick my plate clean. I think I was five and the sticky stuff would always entrap my fingers and keep me from creating my dried alphabet pictures that I adored. Of course it was all worth it!

I suppose it wasn't exactly a childhood memory since when I graduated from high school without passing any words we knew exactly how to celebrate...a little shack of a cafe by the ocean that sold the best stuffed french toast in the world. I wore a Irish green knit sweater and a high waisted jean skirt...with the company of some great people...I felt like the happiest person in the world. Crepes, pancakes and waffles will always have their place in my story but I guess this particular dish just holds its value.

{Strawberries & Banana Almond French Toast}

Hugs were passed and goodbyes in different languages were said last night. My mind somehow wonders to a different place when I take that long drive home. I sang some country tunes and dreamed of when the lyrics would mean something...and I thought about all the above memories. Somehow I concluded that I must make another french toast close to the very kind I love the next morning. Sure I've made my far share....insert Peanut Butter and Jelly French Toast here :) But this time I wanted to make a spin off all the types I've had in the past and create something that really defined me as a person. Simple, simple, simple..and flavorful!

Sweet Memories French Toast

1 Whole Egg, 2 Egg Whites
1 Tsp Vanilla Extract or Almond Extract
1 Tsp Cinnamon
1 Tbsp Almond Milk
2 Slices of Flax Seed Bread

1 Banana, sliced
4 Strawberries, sliced
1 tbsp Raw Almond Butter

Whisk together the eggs, vanilla, milk and cinnamon. Place bread into eggy mixture and let sit one minute on each side. In a medium heated pan melt 1 tbsp Coconut Oil. Place both slices of bread in pan. Allow to cook five minutes each side depending on how golden brown you like it. Place one slice on plate and layer with banana, strawberries and almond butter. Place another slice on top and layer again. Top with cinnamon and more almond butter. Savor!

I gotta go and start packing..I have a stellar weekend planned that involves dancing, gold feathers and trying to stuff my cowboy boots in my tiny suitcase. Pictures will be taken :)

What kind of dish holds memories in your life? Can't wait to hear your stories!! xoxo
