Bi-Rite Market

Whirlwind of life I suppose..somehow this little picture post got buried under all the pumpkin laden breakfast posts..forgive me please. The last day of my trip, back in August, was spent taking the BART to a little shady neighborhood off Market and 18th street. I had every intention of getting a famous Bi-Rite vegan coconut ice cream but little did I know I was in for so much more...we are already planning our next trip back!

Three tiny aisles filled with house made hummus, creative salads and vegan desserts. I picked up an Rose Black kombucha drink, juicy local organic apple and an Santa Fe style organic chicken salad. I even ran into the owner!! I wanted to curl up by the impressive kombucha case and never leave. My mom promised me ice cream if I went quietly...I accepted :)

The smell of the next door cafe's squash blossom calzones were too much for her to handle walking away from..so we went inside to take one to go. I loved the whole style of the place..local seasonal produce used only in all their Italian dishes. She paired her meal with an Vanilla Lavender kombucha. Mmmm.

We went to the local park to feast. And I mean feast!

Five thrift shops, fifteen minutes of people watching and full tummies later..it was time for ice cream! Thankfully Bi-Rite has an creamery just across the street..not like I planned that or anything :) The best part of the trip! I forget what she had...but knowing my mom it was something full of vanilla butter goodness!

{Vegan Coconut Milk Chocolate "Ice Cream" with an Gluten Free Sugar Cone}

Gimmie ice cream and I'm your girl..gimmie vegan coconut milk ice cream with an gluten free sugar cone...I'm your girl forever. Love you Bi-rite!

Plan a whole trip to San Fran to just go to the Bi-Rite Market. Seriously. It. is. worth. it.

  3. Bi-Rite looks great! I have heard a lot about them and their program celebrating food and the arts, 18 Reasons. I'd love to open something similar in the midwest. :)

  4. Thanks for the tip! I'm going to San Francisco on Monday and this place will definitely be on my agenda. I'll be with my mom as well. I've never been able to get vegan ice cream on a gluten free cone before. All my specifications! Can't wait!
