History

Nursing education in School of Nursing Fudan University can be traced back to the Union Nursing School of Shanghai Xi’men Women and Children Hospital in 1920. In 2019, Fudan ranks 86th in QS Nursing ranking in the world. The school set up undergraduate programs in 1985, master programs in 1995, and PhD programs in 2008. In 2009, Fudan became one of the first batches of universities in China offering professional master degrees in nursing discipline. And in 2011, Fudan University was grantedby the State Council to be one of the first batch of universities in China conferring master’sand doctoral degreesin subjects under the first-level discipline category of nursing. In 2012, Fudans nursing programs wererated as the first-class discipline (B) in Shanghai. And in the same year, the school was approved by the Ministry of Education to set one of the first post-doctoral fellowship stations in China and the only one in Shanghai.


Subjects and Programs

The school offered full-time degree programs across all three study periods: PhD, masters, and undergraduate programs. It also provides part-time programs such as bachelor-conversion programs and continuing education programs. Currently, the number of full-time nursing students reaches nearly 1,000.


Faculty

Presently, the school has 51 staff, among them are 32 teaching faculty including 18 professors and associate professors, 3 PhD supervisors, 6 master-level supervisors, 4 adjunct PhD supervisors and 20 adjunct master-level supervisors from affiliated hospitals.


Research

With comprehensive planning, policy guidance and vigorous support from the “Double First-Classstrategy of Fudan University, the School of Nursing follows the principle of  integration and collaboration” in disciplinary development, building 3 academic research platforms: Evidence-based Nursing Center, Big-Data Nursing Platform and Advanced Nursing Practice Platform, and encourages nursing research in 6 specialty areas throughout the entire lifespan: neonatal care, midwifery, critical care, chronic disease management, cancer nursing and aged care. In 2004, Fudan University Evidence-Based Nursing Center was launched as the first collaborative center of the Joanna Briggs Institute in mainland China. In 2014, Shanghai Evidence-Based Center was established in Fudan Nursing School. The school also set up the “School of Nursing Fudan University Patient Experience Center” and the “School of Nursing Fudan University-Xuhui District Research and Training Center for Elderly Care Service”.


International Cooperation

The school has developed cooperation ties in faculty exchange, academic research and student exchange with many leading nursing schools of renowned universities, among them are University of Pittsburgh, Duke University and New York University in the US, the Joanna Briggs Institute of University of Adelaide and Newcastle University in Australia, the University of Toronto in Canada, Chiang Mai University in Thailand, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong, and Turku University in Finland.
