Fudan alumna elected the first woman rector of Ca’ Foscari

on october 1, ca’ foscari university of venice welcomed its 23rd and first woman rector tiziana lippiello (chinese name: lijiya), who studied at the school of philosophy, fudan university from 1985 to 1987, majoring in classical chinese language and history of philosophy.

tiziana lippiello has acted as a vital bridge between fudan and ca’ foscari. let’s take a look back how she crossed path with fudan as a senior university official.   

金沙手机版登录in 2016, she attended the 60th founding anniversary of fudan school of philosophy as vice-rector of ca’ foscari university of venice in charge of relations with asia. during her visit, she also delivered a lecture on chinese philosophy and culture for postgraduate students.

in march, 2019, tiziana lippiello, this time as a member of ca' foscari delegation, visited fudan to sign  a memorandum of understanding and a student exchange agreement. in november, she attended the exhibition “the mind of literati: brush and ink in chinese paintings documenta” in hong kong, presented by leisure and cultural services department in hong kong and fudan school of philosophy.

this march, as the covid-19 pandemic hit italy, fudan school of philosophy donated around 3,000 masks to ca’ foscari to help it fight coronavirus. soon, fudan and ca’ foscari will launch a joint erasmus+ fellowship program. agreement on the details is expected to be reached this year.

▪ tiziana lippiello is full professor of classical chinese language, history of philosophy and religion in china at the department of asian and north african studies. since 2014, she has served as vice-rector in charge of relations with asia (2014-2017) and international relations (2017-2020).


▪ she has also held the positions of director of the department of asian and north african studies from 2011 to 2014 and director of the department of eastern asian studies from 2009 to 2011.
